michael jackson memorial

Although the media has gone way overboard with coverage of Michael Jackson, he will be remembered as one of the greatest entertainers of all time and a massively important cultural icon. I was lucky enough to win tickets to the event. Besides a media frenzy I didn't really know what to expect. It ended up being a surreal, amazing, and a sad experience. Definitely something I will never forget.

As a child I remember imitating his incredible dance choreography as Thriller dominated airwaves. I remember when his hair caught on fire. When he started to wear a glove. Watching Captain Eo at Disneyland in 3D the summer it came out. When his new music videos were television events. When his every move was scrutinized. The horrible allegations. Buying HIStory the day it came out with my best friend while girls laughed at us.

Michael truly was an inspiration for me, and though I partook in the what was almost an entire genre of Michael Jackson jokes, I couldn't wait to see what he was going to do next. Indeed, through it all I was always hoping for his comeback when he would amaze us all again. He is gone but his music and influence remain. We love you Michael! RIP.

Here is a video I made with Totally Sketch about the Michael Jackson Memorial.

Here is my tribute in the only way I know how. As Johnny Cash doing a cover of "Bad" of course.
